Unlocking the power of DAOs, with .dao

Domains matter

Recognizable at first glance
Community driven

It’s a no-brainer
If we’re going to make that happen, we need to work together.
That’s why we created DomainDAO.
We’ve already taken serious actions to secure the future of .dao, securing contributors from across the world and raising over 400 ETH.
Together, we have the support and resources to disrupt the domain monopoly and ensure .dao serves our communities, not corporations.

Frequently asked questions
Building the .dao domain is just the first step. There are many other things on the roadmap, which are not limited to adding more TLDs, developing infrastructure for DAOs and promoting DAO culture globally.
Of course, the DomainDAO community will be our key decision maker and help shape our long-term goal and roadmap.
Domain names sold on Unstoppable Domains are web3 domain names. To visit the website, users need to use a browser extension or a browser that supports Unstoppable Domains.
Once our application for .dao TLD gets approved by ICANN and we start the service, users can visit .dao websites without extra software just like we do with any other website.
Most importantly, WE ARE A DAO. It means that every DomainDAO member (you) will write and share the future of .dao together.
Currently No. The .dao domain will be a web2 domain. Even though web3 is becoming more mainstream, web2 domain is still the easiest way for users to access a website.
However, we do have a plan to operate the .dao web3 domain system and integrate with other web3 domain services including ENS and TNS.
If we don't succeed, you can redeem your tokens/remaining funds after the incurred cost.
However, we are confident that we can succeed since we have you, DAO believers, who will not only support us throughout the application process, but will also be the ultimate users of the .dao domain.
It would be ironic to see, WE, DAOers, the users and believers of DAO, lose a bidding war to a corporation.
DomainDAO NFT is the right to pre-reserve a second-level domain name under .dao TLD before the public registration. DomainDAO NFT can be minted by using $DOMAIN token.
We will release a limited set of domain names available for minting. After initial mint, DomainDAO NFT can be traded on open market such as OpenSea. We will do our best to prevent domain squatting and ensure fair competition.
If we do not win .dao TLD, you will get your $DOMAIN back.
$DOMAIN token is used as a proof for contribution in Angel Phase.
The owner of $DOMAIN token will have a right to govern in the future, and can also use $DOMAIN token to mint DomainDAO NFT.
You can get $DOMAIN by contributing ETH on Juicebox.
First, we would like to be prepared to apply the moment the application window opens, and we would also like to be prepared to run the service as soon as we are approved.
Second, we would like to prevent big corporations from simply taking the .dao domain by conveying that we are gathering together a community and making a move so that the .dao can be owned by people.
A domain is comprised of two elements - what comes before and after the "dot". For example, in the case of www.example.com, com is the top-level domain (TLD) and example is the second-level domain.
The domain names which can be purchased from a website like domains.google.com are mostly second-level domains. The NEW top-level domains can only be acquired by receiving the approval of ICANN , a process which requires a significant amount of paperwork and financial resources. Furthermore, the timeline cannot be guaranteed in advance. ICANN only opens the application window once a decade (the last of which was in 2012), and the upcoming window has yet to be scheduled.
Popular domain names for which multiple entities would apply are decided by auction. For example, Amazon beat out Google, winning the .buy domain for $4.6 million. Thus, we need to beat other big corporations who would also like to own the .dao domain. This is no small feat for an individual, which is why we need YOU to join our DAO so that we are able to win together!
